The graduates of Assumption's Class of 2017 made history on Sunday, May 14, as the College held its Centennial Commencement exercises at the DCU Center in downtown Worcester, in which speaker John L. Allen, Jr., editor of Crux, a publication that focuses on news of the Vatican and Catholic Church, delivered the Commencement address.

The criteria for the WPI Dean's List differs from most other universities as WPI does not compute a grade point average (GPA). Instead, WPI defines the Dean's List by the amount of work completed at the A level in courses and projects.

Holyoke Community College and HCC Student Activities celebrated the achievements and accomplishments of students who participate in student clubs at the 2016-2017 Club Appreciation and Awards Ceremony on Fri., May 5. The students receiving this merit badge were recognized in a variety of different categories.

The Assumption College Department of Psychology has announced that 23 students became members of the Psychology National Honor Society, Psi Chi, earlier this academic year.

Assumption College honored 76 students with awards for academic excellence during the 33rd Annual Honors Convocation, held on April 19 in the Chapel of the Holy Spirit. Awards ranged from departmental honors to special recognitions, to Augustine Scholarships, the College's highest academic honor.

The Assumption College Office of Student Affairs has announced that 24 students have been selected among a significant pool of applicants to serve as 2017 orientation leaders.

Assumption College's Department of Art, Music and Theatre will present the Tony Award-winning musical The Music Man, the College's ninth annual spring production held at The Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts, on April 21-23, featuring Assumption students, alumni, and members of the community.

Nichols College has recognized 469 students who achieved Dean's List status for their academic work during the fall 2016 semester.

The Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI) baseball roster has been finalized and the Engineers have 10 seniors, seven juniors, five sophomores and 14 freshmen. RPI (0-3) travels to NJ to play Stevens Institute of Technology for a double header on Sunday (12pm).

Sixteen Assumption students spending the spring semester abroad at Assumption College's Rome Campus where the city and country of Italy become a living classroom.

To earn a spot on the Dean's List, Assumption students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 or higher for a five-class, 15-credit semester. The Dean's List is announced twice per academic year, once at the completion of the fall semester, and again at the completion of the spring semester.

To earn a spot on the Dean's List, Assumption students must achieve a grade point average of 3.5 for a five-class, 15-credit semester. "The Dean's List is a recognition of students who have attained significant academic achievements," said Assumption College President Francesco Cesareo, Ph.D. "The College is proud to formally recognize its top scholars whose dedication, hard work and commitment to their studies, are forming them to become effective leaders whom others will seek to emulate.

693 students received a degree, including 463 Bachelor of Arts degrees; 187 graduate studies degrees and certificates; and 43 Continuing and Career, during Assumption College's 99th Commencement exercises on Saturday, May 7. Carolyn Woo, Ph.D., CEO of Catholic Relief Services (CRS), delivered the commencement address. Honorary degrees were conferred upon Dr. Woo; Dr. James O'Connell, president of Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program; and Assumption alumni Dr. Fred Bayon '65, Board Chair Emeritus, and Michael Tsotsis '71, Trustee Emeritus. Francesco C. Cesareo, Ph.D., president of Assumption College, congratulated the graduates and reminded them that the values they have had instilled in them over the last four years are ones that will continue to shape their lives and guide them as they serve their purpose in the world.

The Assumption College Department of Philosophy has announced that 9 new members were inducted into Phi Sigma Tau. the Philosophy National Honor honor society, on Friday, April 8. "The Philosophy faculty are proud to welcome this year's inductees into Phi Sigma Tau," said Patrick Corrigan, Ph.D., associate professor of philosophy and the honor society's advisor. "They have merited this honor by their academic excellence, their wide love of learning, and their desire to share their enthusiasm for discovery with others. They carry forward Assumption's highest traditions." Phi Sigma Tau was founded at Muhlenberg College in 1930. Its essential purpose was, and is, to promote ties among philosophy departments in accredited institutions and students in philosophy. To be inducted into Phi Sigma Tau, students at Assumption need to successfully complete at least three courses in philosophy, and demonstrated interest in philosophy beyond the classroom.
